Why use quartz cuvettes in the spectrophotometer?
It’s not necessary to always use quartz cuvettes and it depends on the wavelength range you are targeting. Quartz cuvettes have a high transmission rate (83% or higher) @ UV wavelength range while Optical Glass or Plastic (PS or PMMA) don’t.
If organic solvents are involved, glass or quartz cuvettes are the preferred choices as these cuvettes display higher resistance compared to variants made from plastic. In general, quartz cuvettes display greater transparency and accuracy of measurement, and they can be re-used many times.
